African American Bridge Builders | The King Family

In this video I go on a history adventure! Taking a road trip to Stone Mountain Park in Georgia, I visit the Washington King covered bridge, which was originally constructed in 1891. Washington King was an African American business man and bridge contractor. His father Horace King was born a slave but gained his freedom through bridge building and passed along his skills to his sons. Learn the history of this family, their covered bridges in Georgia, and the recent historic preservation efforts that have gone into telling the full story of this unique bridge building family
